DLS Calculator User Guide


This user guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to use the DLS Calculator web application to calculate revised targets in cricket matches affected by weather interruptions or other delays. We will cover two common scenarios:


1. Interruption in the First Innings - The match is reduced during the middle of the first innings.

2. Interruption in the Second Innings - The first innings completed and the match is interrupted in the second innings.

Scenario 1: Interruption in the First Innings


Step 1: Open the DLS Calculator

- Begin by navigating to the DLS Calculator application in your web browser. https://dls.crikit.io


Step 2: Enter Basic Match Details

- In the provided form fields, enter the following information:

  - Number of Overs (N): The original number of overs planned for the innings (e.g., 50).

  - Team 1's Total Score (S): The score achieved by Team 1 at the end of their overs

  - Average Score in 50 overs (G50):The average score for a 50-over innings based on historical data (e.g., 245). This is a value that ICC has determined for 50 overs. You can adjust this value for your tournament/league via historical data.


 Step 3: Add Interruption Details

- Click the "Add Scenario" button to specify the interruption details:

  - Team: Select "Team 1".

  - Overs Before: Enter the number of overs remaining before the interruption

  - Overs After: Enter the number of overs remaining after the interruption is accounted for

  - Wickets: Enter the number of wickets lost at the time of interruption 


 Step 4: Submit for Calculation

- Once all details are filled in, click the "Calculate" button to submit the form.

- The application processes the input and displays the revised target score based on the DLS method.


Example:

For a 50 over match, between Team A vs Team B, the first innings (Team A) was interrupted after 15 overs. The score at that point was 75/3. After the interruption, the game was shortened to 40 overs. Team A ended up scoring 265/7 at the end of 40 overs. In this scenario, what would be the target for Team B?


The DLS par score would be 289 for Team B and the target would be 290 runs.

Scenario 2: Interruption in the Second Innings


Step 1: Open the DLS Calculator

- Navigate to the DLS Calculator on your web browser.


Step 2: Enter Basic Match Details

- In the provided form fields, enter the following information:

  - Number of Overs (N): The original number of overs planned for the innings (e.g., 50).

  - Team 1's Total Score (S): The score achieved by Team 1 at the end of their overs

Example:

For a 50 over match, between Team A vs Team B, in the first innings Team A scored 267/5 at the end of 50 overs. During the chase, team B's innings was interrupted after 18 overs when their score was 79/4.  12 overs were lost and the match was reduced to 38 overs. What will the target for Team B.


The target would be 239 runs for Team B and the DLS par score
