Calculation of NRR

The NRR on the CrikIT platform follows standard ICC rules. This the format of the NRR calculation:

  • NRR =   [(Sum of all Runs scored)/ (Number of total overs batted)]  - [ (Sum of all runs conceeded)/ (Number of total overs bowled)]

The formulae is pretty standard, however ICC has a few stipulations on how the total overs batted and bowled are calculated.

Example 1:  In a 20 over match, Team A bats first and gets bowled out for 86 runs in 18.1 overs. Team B chases down this target in 18.4 overs.

    • Because Team A was bowled out, before the stipulated number of overs, the Number of overs batted for Team A is calculated as 20 (same for the number of overs bowled by Team B)
    • Since Team B chased down the target in 18.4 overs, the total number of overs batted by team B is 18.4 (same for the number of overs bowled by Team A).

Example 2:  In a 20 over match, Team A bats first and gets bowled out for 97 runs in 18 overs. Team B is then dismissed for 53 run in 13 overs.

    • Overs batted and bowled by both teams in this scenario would be 20, since none of them batted the stipulated amount of overs.

In the event of match curtailed by rain, the NRR is calculated according to the following rules:

  •  If the match is curtailed in the first innings itself and both teams bat the same number of overs, then the calculation is similar to the above examples with the only change being that the max overs is now the reduced match overs.
  • If the team batting first bats the full allotted overs and then the match is curtailed in the second innings with the a revised target, then the NRR is calculated as:
    • Team A batting first scored 120 in 20 overs. Due to rain, the match was curtailed to 10 overs at the start of the second innings with the revised target of 85. Then for NRR purposes, Team A scored 84 runs in 10 overs. For Team B, there actual score would be used as described in example 1 and 2
